Some of the best golf courses in Australia

Looking for somewhere to play golf? Here is our list of the some of the top golf courses in Australia.

Royal Melbourne

Founded in 1891, the Royal Melbourne Golf Club (RMGC) is often given the title of Australia’s most prestigious golf club, and is located in an area of Melbourne that boasts perfect terrain and topography. The course has hosted numerous national and international events, whose competitors rank the RMGC’s two courses as some of the best in the world. The golf club hosted the Presidents Cup in 1998.

Hidden Valley Golf Course

Located just 45 minutes north of Melbourne, the Hidden Valley Golf Course is nestled within the stunning Hidden Valley Estate, formerly the sprawling rural estate of Robert Holmes a Court.

Designed in consultation with renowned golfer Craig Parry, Hidden Valley Golf Course is the best course north of Melbourne, attracting the best golfers from Melbourne and even across Victoria. Famous as being one of the best golf courses in Australia, keen golfers can also live very close to the Hidden Valley Golf Course by purchasing land for sale in Hidden Valley. Real estate in Hidden Valley is a great investment. Visit www.hiddenvalleygolf.com.au to see Hidden Valley land for sale.

La Perouse, New South Wales

Don’t let its age fool you – this 80 year old course possesses one very smart and technical design. Renowned as Australia’s most scenic course, La Perouse is located on the north side of the entrance to Botany Bay, just 25 minutes from the centre of Sydney. The greens all run in different directions, ensuring that most of the time you’ll get to experience the wind coming in from a different angle. This is one course that’s definitely worth a look, even just for the scenery.

Ellerston

Just over 300km from Sydney lies Ellerston, a sprawling golf course located on the Ellerston Pastoral Station which is owned by the Packer Family. Designed by Greg Norman and Bob Harrison and completed in 2004, the course requires you to drive a kilometre from the club house just to get to the first tee. That said, we have no doubt it’s worth the drive. Unfortunately Kerry Packer himself never got to experience golf here – research tells us that he fell too ill before the course was completed. Despite being maintained by a full-time staff, this exclusive course is only played on by about six people per week!

Barnbougle Dunes

A fairly new kid on the block, this striking course near Launceston, Tasmania, is only four years old. Evoking thoughts of NSW, Scotland and Ireland, this course earns its stripes by not only being naturally magnificent, but by being open to the public, enabling all golf lovers to enjoy its typography and clever design.
